Artist Profile for Lowkey

Connection to Notts:
I came to Nottingham Uni in 1998 and liked it so much I've stayed here ever
since.

Outline of Work to date:
I promote Kombination Funk as well as being the resident dj there. I also
play at various places across Nottingham, Leicester, Derby & Sheffield as and when gigs come up. I do a show on www.kindafunkyradio.com every other
thursday from 7-9, as well as doing the thrusday and friday night (10-12)
drum and bass show on Freeze 107.9fm with Vaccine. I also produce Drum and
Bass music and am one of the co founders of Nottingham's Brutal Recordings,
releasing tunes under the collective name, Dataset.

Artistic Influences:
Originally it was people like Dillinja and Shy Fx that got me into the scene. But these days it's the darker producers like Technical Itch and Evol Intent that I get most inspired by. The beats that these guys are coming out with are so tight and technically produced; they're are taking break editing to the next level but still keeping it rolling and dancefloor oriented. On a local level the Vaccine guys have got so much talent and make wicked music.
We've been collaborating together on our 'Dataset' project (along with Dyazide, Lynkx, Awax and Agent Smith) and have got some wicked beats coming through. Watch out for Brutal recordings in 2005!

How he started Out:
I started out playing parties down in Surrey where I grew up. When I moved
to Notttingham my first gigs were in the VIP rooms at media before finally starting up Kombination Funk with Chris Macp in May 2002. And since then it's been crazy with gigs all over Nottingham and the Midlands.

Other artists worked with:
On a DJing side in the last few months I've played with Ed Rush, Optical, J Majik, Fierce, Technical Itch, Dylan, Clipz, Raiden, Hive, Andy C, Ray Keith, Resonant Evil, Skitty, Mampi Swift, Blame, Evol Intent, Faith In Chaos, Heist and probably a few more! I regularly work with MCs Menace and Ninety who are my residents at Kombination Funk and do the radio with me whenever they can on www.kindafunkyradio.com. On a production tip I've been in the studio with the rest of the Dataset crew and everything is all go with the label at the moment. Hopefully we'll be helping to push nottingham talent on a more national scale and to raise the musical profile of the city generally.
