About Kombination Funk:
Kombination Funk was started in May 2002 by Chris Macp. He'd recently moved to Nottingham from Bristol, where he was involved in a thriving drum and bass scene. The Nottingham scene didn't seem to have the sort of nights that he wanted to go to so he approached Blueprint about starting his own Drum and Bass night. Two months on Chris Lowkey joined him in running the night and they put on some of the best local dnb and hip hop talent on thursday nights. In 2003 they moved to a friday night and celebrated their 1st Birthday by bringing down new kids on the block Kryptic Minds and Leon Switch. Recently signed to Andy C's Frequency label and founders of DefCom and Unkut recordings, Kryptic Minds pulled in a big crowd and showed Nottingham how to rock a crowd without playing all the usual anthems that are caned by other dnb nights. With a regular Friday night slot now, Chris & Chris stepped things up a gear moving into the back end of 2003 bringing bigger and better line-ups starting with Full Cycle's DJ Clipz in October. The night that cemented Kombination Funk as one of Nottingham's leading underground music nights came in November 2003 when, after hours of work and planning from they boys, they brought us Dylan & Technical Itch, who were at the end of their Technical Freaks World Tour. It has been described by some as the 'darkest and heaviest night nottingham has ever had'!
Rolling into 2004 brought a new reisdent DJ in the form of London's DJ Dyazide. With his hard-hitting style and heavyweight tune selection, he's played a KF a number of times, prior to his residency, and the Chris's decided to snap him up before someone else did!More big line-ups in 2004 have seen Renegade Hardware's DJ Raiden and the Violence label manager DJ Hive. And the boys are now preparing for their 2nd birthday with Resonant Evil.
Other DJs that have supported the night over the past two years include: Kraf-D, KLR, Elevate, Squigley, Obe1, Kymatik, Disfunktion, Vaccine (& Vaccine Live), Dj Smith, Lynkx, Strike, Calmboy, Awax, Case, Sonar, Syfa, Moocha, Transit Mafia, Krunch, Kuss, Pauze, Mugz, Planar, Fijjitt, Smyla, Toxic, Ben Fawce & many more.
Vocals are provided by the City's finest MCs in the form of KF residents Menace & Ninety, who have also held it down at most of the other local nights at various points in the past.
Sound support comes from Pure Filth, which, as anyone who has been down to one of the night's will tell you, gives Kombination Funk the volume and clarity of sound that is unrivalved in the city.
